Living In Recovery IS Possible….

“I have a new way to live. I no longer have to make decisions that get me in the hospital, jail or almost dead. I can live a productive life, the life that God intended for me to have. I grew up in addiction in my home, and family. No place was safe from addiction. Today, I make my own choices based on what God would have me to do. I am no longer a slave to my past, my raising or my surroundings” Megan H.

Dec2020 SIGCO Thank You ..... Jail Ministry Update   Leave Comment
11 December 2020

Dear SIGCO Friends, Volunteers and Supporters,

As December clips along briskly, the Stand in the Gap Coalition (SIGCO) reflects on 2020 while enduring the uncertainties of the COVID virus. We have found ourselves continually searching for platforms to continue the vision and programs of SIGCO toward a “Drug Free” Tri-State area and insuring the Drug Education and Training of our children in school and other local opportunities.

Another program of concern for SIGCO is our continued Jail Ministry for men and women Inmates at the Claiborne County Justice Center (CCJC). We have continued this program for many years, yet, COVID has taken us from CCJC for eight (8) months during 2020. Recently, SIGCO has been cleared to return to bringing the “Gospel” Good News to the men and women of CCJC. NOW.... we will again bring some Good Cheer with the Christmas message by providing individual inmates “Candy Treat” Bags and Caroling on December 17th as part of our regular Friday Jail Ministry.

As this year ends, we would like to note that you may make a “Years End” donation of your choice to SIGCO that is fully tax deductible. Additionally, if you would like to help with our CCJC Christmas “Candy Treats”, please contact our office, PH. 423-300-1302 for additional details.

As 2020 comes to a close, we would like to convey a sincere “Thank You” for your continued support of SIGCO throughout 2020.

With Greatest Appreciation,
Dan Spurlock

Cannabis/Marijuana..... New research....Teenagers Harmed!   Leave Comment

“Pot, Weed,etc”.... Cannabis is professionally accessed TODAY to have a THC content that is 40% more powerful than 40 years ago! Why? How?
Genetic Enhancements that produce more addictive usage, thereby, more Monies Expended! This is NOT an opinion, but, a scientific fact.
Now, please read this new research on the “Permanent Brain Damage” that early age “Pot Smokers” are creating for their young bodies and minds! Also, “Marijuana/Cannabis” is professionally recognized as a “Gateway Drug” which may create the allure and desire for greater and more frequent “High” experiences! Please take a look at these New Research findings!
NEW RESEARCH....concludes... Cannabis-Marijuanna..... Teenagers harmed!   Leave Comment
Teenagers using cannabis are causing long-lasting damage to their developing brains, a Canadian study suggests.
It found the impact on thinking skills, memory and behaviour was worse than that of teenage drinking.
The researchers, from the University of Montreal, urged teenagers to delay their use of cannabis for as long as they felt able.
The study tracked and tested 3,800 adolescents over four years, starting from around the age of 13.
Drinking alcohol and taking drugs, such as cannabis, at a young age is known to cause problems with cognitive abilities such as learning, attention and decision-making as well as academic performance at school.
This study found these problems increased as cannabis use increased - and the effects were lasting, unlike those of alcohol.
What are the health risks of cannabis use?
The teenagers, from 31 different Canadian schools, gave details of their drug and drinking habits once a year.
Their brain skills were also tested every year in school using computer-based cognitive tests.
Developing brains
Although levels of cannabis use in the study were low compared with alcohol use, 28% of the teenagers still admitted to some kind of use.
This compared with 75% of the teenagers who said they drank alcohol at least occasionally.
Prof Patricia J Conrod, lead study author, from the department of psychiatry at Montreal, said she had expected alcohol to have had more of an impact on the teenagers' brains.
CannabisImage copyrightGETTY IMAGES
But, instead, the research detected greater increases in errors in cognitive tests on the teenagers using cannabis - while they were taking the drug and after they had stopped.
These effects were seen in working memory, reasoning and their ability to control their behaviour.
"Their brains are still developing but cannabis is interfering with that," Prof Conrod said, of teenagers.
"They should delay their use of cannabis as long as they can."
She also said the findings highlighted the importance of drug-prevention programmes.
Cannabis is thought to be the most widely used illegal drug in the UK.
It can be addictive and using it has been shown to increase the risk of developing psychotic illnesses, particularly in adolescents.
Giving up cannabis can lead to withdrawal symptoms, such as sleeping problems and mood swings, experts say.
The study is published in the American Journal of Psychiatry.
Pain Relief & “Opioids”   Leave Comment
The American Medical Association (AMA) recently published a “Pain Relief” study where results proved that “Opioids” are not the best Pain Relievers. Medications such as Tylenol II give pain relief without the addictive side effects of Opioids.

Veterans Crisis Line Fact Sheet Confidential crisis help for Veterans and their families
The Veterans Crisis Line is a toll-free, confidential resource that connects Veterans in crisis and their families and friends with qualified, caring U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) responders.
Veterans and their loved ones can call 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1, chat online at VeteransCrisisLine.net, or send a text message to 838255 to receive free, confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, even if they are not registered with VA or enrolled in VA health care.
The responders at the Veterans Crisis Line are specially trained and experienced in helping Veterans of all ages and circumstances — from Veterans coping with mental health issues that were never addressed to recent Veterans struggling with relationships or
the transition back to civilian life. Veterans Crisis Line responders provide support when these and other issues — such as chronic pain, anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, anger, and even homelessness — reach a crisis point. Some of the responders are Veterans themselves and understand what Veterans and their families and friends have been through.
Since its launch in 2007, the Veterans Crisis Line has answered more than 3.3 million calls and initiated the dispatch of emergency services to callers in crisis more than 93,000 times. The Veterans Crisis Line anonymous online chat service, added in 2009, has engaged in nearly 395,000 chats. In November 2011, the Veterans Crisis Line introduced a text-messaging service to provide another way for Veterans to connect with confidential, round-the-clock support, and since then has responded to more than 92,000 texts.
In 2011, the National Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline was renamed the Veterans Crisis Line to encourage Veterans and their families and friends, who may be the first to realize a Veteran is in emotional distress, to reach out for support when issues reach a crisis point, even if it is not a suicidal crisis.
VA is working to make sure that all Veterans and their loved ones are aware of the Veterans Crisis Line. To reach as many Veterans
as possible, VA is coordinating with communities and partner groups nationwide, including community-based organizations, Veterans Service Organizations, and local health care providers, to let Veterans and their loved ones know that support is available whenever, if ever, they need it.

The Stand in the Gap Coalition (SIGCO) is a 501(c)(3) faith-based organization, founded in 2011 . Specifically, " SIGCO, by Prayer and the Lord's guidance, seeks the Eradication of Drug Abuse, Alcohol and Family Violence in our Tri-state area".

Today, the spirit and goals of SIGCO remain alive through the volunteer efforts of a small core of people. We maintain our principal contact location in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee and in an office space in the back of the oldest church standing in the area. We provide, "free to the public", saliva based drug testing kit's, and training for their distribution, and education for the prevention of substance abuse. SIGCO conducts a jail ministry and provides the Holy Bible to any inmate that would like one , along with reading glasses , and baptism services to inmates, as well as gifts for their children at Christmas. If you have a testimony that you would like to share or be a part of the jail ministry on a regular basis, please see the contact information below .

We have hosted law-enforcement meetings for the past several years for better communication with our local, state and federal law-enforcement and drug task force agencies . Is there more we can do? Is there more we should do? Our communities are in a critical need for rehabilitation facilities, Christian counseling , foster parents due to the problem of substance abuse! These are all symptoms of a larger problem and the problem is our nation forgetting God and the Lord Jesus Christ, but we believe and follow our founding scripture, ll Chronicles 7:14 . "Please Pray "!

Matthew 9:37-38 KJV

[37] Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; [38] Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Stand in the Gap Coalition (SIGCO) Quarterly Meeting 2 October 2016

To "Stand in the Gap Coalition" (SIGCO) associates, friends and guests, please mark your calendars for our next meeting on
Sunday, 2 October 2016, 3pm at 502 Pennlyn Avenue, Cumberland Gap, Tn., which is the "oldest church standing" in the local area.

This meeting will focus on one of our primary SIGCO goals of "Communication" throughout the Tri-State area. We are inviting several
"Anti-Drug/Alcohol Abuse" organizations, based locally, to attend this meeting and share their basic goals, functions and assets.

SIGCO is now approaching six (6) years of providing the Tri-State area with a Christian/faith based effort that seeks the "eradication of
drug/alcohol abuse and family violence". Our foundation is based on II Chronicles 7:14. We have worked with all organizations, churches,
law enforcement and varied governmental agencies to effect our basic goals.

There are many, and varied, "Anti-Drug" organizations and agencies in our local KY-TN- VA (Tri-State) area faithfully working to assist folks in need.
Come to this October 2nd SIGCO quarterly meeting and hear what is available, from many sources, to families, schools, churches, and local communities
to help "those seeking to create a better life" with freedom from substance abuses and harmful lifestyles!

"PRAY-ENGAGE-VOTE"...... Additionally, SIGCO will present preliminary information toward a "Stand in the Gap...VOTE" rally before our next Presidential
election in November 2016. Our CHRISTIAN responsibilities demand that we VOTE. No political party candidate or organization will be promoted or desired.
Standing for our morals, values, families and futures is the goal. We must VOTE!

JAIL MINISTRY assistance... SIGCO sponsors a jail ministry at the Claiborne County Justice Center (CCJC) where volunteers minister to male/female inmates.
Bibles are provided to inmates by SIGCO from gifting funds. Would you like to help in this ministry? Male and female volunteers are needed! Meet with us as a
"Guest Volunteer" on Tuesdays, 2:15pm, at the CCJC parking lot. Experience this blessing to "visit those in bonds"!

Please call SIGCO, 423-300-1302, if you desire further information for the Sunday, 2nd October, 3pm meeting. All agencies, associates and interested persons
are welcome to attend. This meeting will be an outstanding opportunity for you to find "The Helpers" in fighting addictive situations in our local area!

"Stand in the Gap Coalition"
Christian Opportunity! Help with our local Jail Ministry! "Stand in the Gap Coalition" (SIGCO) sponsors part of this ministry! We need Men and Women who will assist with our ministry. If interested, please come to the required training listed below. We will meet you there and help you get involved. Please consider this Christian mission specifically called for in your scriptures.

CLAIBORNE COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER (CCJC) Jail Mimistry "Annual Training" will be on Wednesday May 18 @ 5 PM in the training room. The CCJC will be closed at that time, but if everyone would meet in the lobby, someone will be there to let you in.

The main section of this years training will be presented by a couple of associates from Ridgeview Behavioral Health Systems and will be concerning Suicide Identification, Prevention and Intervention.

Again, if you know of anyone who wishes to participate in the CCJC Jail Ministry Program, please give them my contact information and have them get in touch with me asap before the class.

On behalf of Sheriff David Ray and The Sheriff's Office, extend to you our deepest thanks for the service you provide to the facility and the community. I look forward to seeing each one of you at the class and may God bless you all.

I've never know of a Bullet or Shotgun Shell, by itself, to have killed any of our children or Grandchildren! BUT, I KNOW OF MANY CHILDREN TAKEN AWAY BY "ONE" POWERFUL & ADDICTIVE NARCOTIC PILL!

I don’t need to tell you—America is in trouble. Washington and our political system are fractured.

We’ve seen violence at political rallies. One candidate is under investigation by the FBI. Another candidate says we need a political revolution. One thing I’m sure of—what America really needs is a spiritual revolution!

It will only happen if we turn to God. The urgency of repentance and prayer for our nation becomes more obvious by the day. As Christians we need to stand together and ask God to intervene in this country—to forgive us and to give us another chance. That’s why I’m going to every state this year to hold a Decision America Tour prayer rally on the capitol steps. When I come to a city near you, I hope you will join me. Bring your family, bring your Bible study group, bring your pastor and church leaders. Our nation is broken—politically, spiritually, and morally—and our only hope is Almighty God.

One of the things that has surprised and thrilled me is that at every stop on the tour, as I take several minutes to share the Gospel message, hundreds of people are letting us know that they have prayed to accept Christ as their Savior! We thank God for each and every soul that has been saved.
DAT 2016.... Make a "Day Stand" for God and America!   Leave Comment
Dear SIGCO volunteers, friends and associates!

HOPEFULLY.... YOU HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF DAT 2016! If, not, please read on below!

"DECISION AMERICA TOUR 2016" (DAT 2016) by Rev Franklin Graham....he is visiting all 50 states on the Capitol steps to call Christians out to: 1) PRAY for America 2) ENGAGE communities and associates to get involved in America 3) VOTE...only 30% Christians voted 2008! 14,000 concerned Christians and Americans stood at the South Carolina State Capitol steps recently showing their willingness to see the dismal 30% factor changed for the "Betterment of America"!

What a Blessing it would be for a huge "STAND on the CAPITOL STEPS" at the Tennessee (3 May 2016) and Kentucky (4 May 2016) rallies by "STAND IN THE GAP COALITION" (SIGCO) Volunteers and Associates!

We are exploring the possibilities for "Mass Transportation" to the 3rd/Tn and 4th/KY rallies respectively! Choose the Capitol steps you want to "MAKE A STAND" on for DAT 2016 and get "ON BOARD" for a "Day Trip" to these historic events where Christians will join Rev. Graham in a public cry out and prayer to God Almighty to guide us back to "HIS" direction and leadership for America! Each rally will commence at "High 12 o'clock Noon" on the respective Capitol Steps! The actual event will last approximately one (1) hour with Rev. Graham delivering the message!

We are conducting an informal survey of SIGCO regarding "MASS TRANSPORTATION" of those interested in making of these events. Please return the "Favor of your response" by return email regarding a couple of questions below:

1) Would you be willing to pay $50 for a day trip transportation by Tour Bus to DAT 2016 at either the Tennessee or Kentucky rally? Please indicate which state rally you prefer?

2) Would you or your church be interested in "CARAVANNING" (using your van) as a SIGCO group to one of the state rallies? Is this your number "1" Mass Transportation preference?

3) Is Private/Individual transportation to either state rally your "Most Preferred" method of transportation to TN/KY DAT 2016 rallies?

Please give us a return email at your earliest convenience! The more folks we hear from will give us a better "Decision Basis" to work from!

In Christ Work! Thanking you in advance, I AM!

The "Stand in the Gap Coalition" (SIGCO), Cumberland Gap, Tn. is sponsoring a "New" Youth Drug Identification and Testing Program in the local Tri-State area called "Give Me A Reason"(GMAR).
This new initiative is a "FREE", Voluntary and Non- Punitive drug identification and testing program of the Appalachia High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) and created by Operation UNITE. It is designed as a way for our youth to avoid peer pressure and give them a reason to say “no” to drug use. When confronted with drugs, this initiative provides youth an opportunity to combat peer pressure and make positive life choices by saying, “I can’t use drugs, my parents drug test me!”

"Give me A Reason" provides "FREE" saliva-based drug testing kits to parents, guardians, or caregivers. This non-invasive test is given within the privacy of one’s home with results in approximately ten (10) minutes.

Drug testing is a logical and simple way to hold the youth/children in your care accountable to your family/home rules concerning use or misuse of drugs (illegal, prescription, or over-the-counter). Again, the goal of this program is to help your child make positive life choices when faced with peer pressure. 50% of 12th Graders today have used Illicit or Illegal Drugs at least ONCE! (this includes illegal Alcohol use).

Young people are "especially vulnerable" to drug misuse because their brains and bodies are significantly developing through age 18yr. Numerous studies have shown that the earlier a teen begins using drugs, the more likely he or she will develop a substance abuse problem or addiction. A Youth commencing Illegal/Illicit use of drugs at age 13yr. is classified clinically as a potential "Drug Addict".

There are legitimate parental concerns that participation in a drug testing program will destroy the trust they have with their children. However, parents have a responsibility to guide and protect their children. Parents who drug test their children are providing them with a compelling reason to say "NO" to drugs. It gives the Youth an automatic "Out" under peer pressure!

GMAR is a great opportunity for "Parents to be Parents" and Youth to be responsible for their actions before Family Trust is broken or Law Enforcement Intervention is required. GMAR is a Totally Voluntary and Anonymous Program. No records are kept. All tests are administered confidentially in the privacy of the family’s home. Each kit contains a self-addressed, stamped envelope and form asking if your test results were positive or negative and, if positive, for which drugs. This data is forwarded to Operation UNITE for trending data only. No personal data is required!

The drug testing kit uses the SalivaScanTM testing method which involves taking a non-invasive swab of the mouth and comparing the results on a color bar included with the kit. The kit tests for ten classes or major types of drugs.

If a positive test result occurs, parents/guardians/caregivers should contact their family doctor, family resource center, area hospital, health department, or other professional to determine the next course of action to take. A listing of resources for participating counties is available at www.operationunite.org. SIGCO may be contacted for additional resources and assistance at PH. 423-300-1302.

The "Stand in the Gap Coalition" (SIGCO), Cumberland Gap, Tn. has been selected by UNITE to sponsor the "Give Me A Reason" program in our local Tri-State area. SIGCO (12 County Coalition of Tri-State Area) is seeking Distribution Points (DP) in our local area. Health Services, Medical/Dental Offices, Pharmacies and Churches are primary sources, yet, other sites are encouraged. A 45 minute training session is required to be designated a DP. Training sessions are being offered at several different locations. Please call, SIGCO (PH. 423-300-1302 or StandntGap@gmail.com), for the location nearest you. There is no cost and no records to keep by a DP. This opportunity is for the entire community. Please get involved.... Let's give our Youth a better REASON to say NO to DRUGS!
"My Parents can Drug Test Me"!
I destroy homes, tear families apart, take your children, and that's just the start.
I'm more costly than diamonds, more costly than gold, the sorrow I bring is a sight to behold. If you need me remember I'm easily found. I live all around you, in schools and in town. I live with the rich, I live with the poor, I live down the street and maybe next door.

My power is awesome; try me..you'll see, but if you do, you may never break free.
Just try me once and I might let you go, but try me twice and I will own your soul.
When I possess you, you'll steal and lie. You'll do what you have to just to get high.
The crimes you'll commit for my narcotic charms will be worth pleasure you'll feel in your arms.

You'll lie to your mother; steal from your dad. When you see their tears, you should feel sad. But you will forget your morals and how you were raised, I'll be your conscience, I'll teach you my ways.
I take children from their parents and parents from their children, I turn people from God, and separate friends.

I'll take everything from you; your looks and your pride, I'll be with you always, right by your side.
You'll give up everything..your family, your home, your friends, your money; then you will be alone.
I'll take and take until you have nothing to give. When I am finished with you, you will be lucky to live.
If you try me be warned, this is no game. If given the chance, I'll drive you insane.
I'll ravish your body, I'll control your mind. I'll own you completely; your soul will be mine.

The nightmares I'll give you while laying in bed, the voices you'll hear from inside your head, the sweats, the shakes, the visions you will see, I want you to know these are all gifts from me.
But then it is too late and you'll know in your heart, that you are mine and we shall not part.
You'll regret that you tried me, they always do; but you came to me, not I to you.
You knew this would happen, many times you were told, but you challenged my power and chose to be bold.
You could have said, "NO!". and just walked away. If you could live that day over, now what would you say?
I will be your Master, you will be my slave. I will even go with you when you go to your grave.
Now that you have met me, what will you do? Will you try me or not? It's all up to you.

"METH" Human Destroyer Facts   Leave Comment
Tennessee is in a methamphetamine crisis. The state ranks among the top in the nation for meth-lab seizures. The economic costs are estimated at more $1 billion in the state. But the problem is more than numbers. The illegal drug affects the lives of tens of thousands. It devastates the body and can even cause death.

Brain and mouth

• Meth works in a region of the brain packed with nerve cells that manufacture dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter (messenger) that controls pleasurable sensations.
• Reduced dopamine levels lead to a decrease in simple motor skills and learning tasks, long-term brain damage.
• Stroke, long-term brain damage.
• Damage to blood vessels.
• Insomnia, paranoia, severe depression.

Heart, lungs and other organs

• When meth is smoked, it enters the respiratory system and takes effect in three to five minutes. It can damage the heart and lungs.
• Meth can severely increase heart rate and blood pressure. Long time use can result in an irregular heartbeat, heart attack or stroke.
• Possible fluid in the lungs and chronic lung disease.
• Liver damage.
• Loss of appetite, weight loss and malnutrition.
• Skin sores result from picking and scratching at imaginary insects that chronic abusers think are crawling on them.

Immune, digestive and muscular systems

• Meth restricts the skin's blood flow and its healing process, resulting in graying skin, acne and open sores.
• Abdominal pain.
• Obstruction in intestines.
• Lack of appetite and few nutrients received from food that is absorbed in the digestive system.
• Meth also effects the muscles, causing jerky movements, increased activity, convulsions and loss of coordination.

Other impacts

• Like with other stimulants, meth is often abused in a "binge and crash" pattern. Users try to maintain a high by taking more of the drug. Some users forgo food and sleep while continuing to take the drug for up to several days.
• Meth makes you high, but it also drags you way down. The "feel-good" emotions for the abuser go far beyond their usual boundaries. But the person feels far worse than usual when coming off the drug.
• A single does of cocaine lasts eight to 30 minutes. But a single dose of meth lasts six to eight hours.

PRESS RELEASE Still Standing in the Gap   Leave Comment
1390768766.jpgWe are not just about marching. Whenever "Stand in the Gap" is mentioned, that's what most people think about and they are proud that they marched, especially the first march of 2011 with 8,000 other people. I would like to tell you what we are really about and why Stand in the Gap Coalition (SIGCO) is "Still Standing in the Gap".

Our children are surrounded with wickedness and they shouldn't have to live with their grandparents or foster homes because the parents are addicted to drugs or alcohol and are incapable of being a real parent.

When drugs or alcohol take over a person, that person loses the life experiences that helps them to grow into a responsible person and leads them into a miserable world of their own. We want to help them get their life back.

We are now a coalition with eleven (11) counties involved in TN, KY and VA. It started with Claiborne County TN, Lee County VA and Bell County KY. Union, Hawkins, Hancock, Campbell, Scott, Anderson, Fentress, and Grainger TN counties are now with us. The Tennessee State and Washington D C legislators know who we are. A pharmaceutical company in Missouri recently contacted us, so we are getting well known. Law enforcement knows who we are and embraces our efforts.

We are also a 501(c)3 non profit faith based organization. God has opened doors that we could not open. We request your prayers and support to open more doors and do what God has for us to do. We are Christians and volunteers of all faiths. By prayer and repentance, SIGCO (Stand in the Gap Coalition) seeks the eradication of Drug and Alcohol Abuse and Family Violence in our tri-state area through God's help and guidance.

Our goal is to "Stand in the Gap" and to seek with prayer, healing, through family assistance, Christian counseling, education, rehabilitation facilities. We seek to renew Christian based laws in our legislative and judicial systems in order to once again be called a Christian Nation.

We do research; we have gone to educational meetings and seminars; we have investigated alternative psuedoephrine nasal congestion products, talked to legislators, pharmacist, judges, law enforcement and doctors, to learn more about the drug and alcohol abuse that can cause family violence.

We need you to pray for us. We need you to join us (to volunteer and attend our meetings). We need you to support us with your prayers, your ideas, and your charitable donations. Don't wait, but, Stand in the Gap for all our communities. Please call 423-300-1302, or email standntgap@gmail.com or view our website www.standntgap.org. for details on getting involved.

The work is plentiful but the workers are few.
